Olympic Medalist Anyika Onuora visits Jewellery Quarter Academy

World, Commonwealth, European and Olympic medalist and sprinter Anyika Onuora visited Jewellery Quarter Academy on the 8th July 2019.

Anyika is a sprinter specialising in the 400m individual and relay events and has won 3 bronze, 1 silver and 1 gold medal. Anyika delivered inspiring back-to-back workshops to both Year 7 and Year 8 students, splitting the workshop into two sections.

Firstly, Anyika passed on her inspiring journey through athletics and how perseverance and passion prevailed along the way. From losing family members to facing major illnesses and injuries to changing specialities midway through her career, Anyika emphatically encouraged the students to chase their dreams and that by staying motivated, determined, inspired and focused, they can achieve whatever they want in the future.

Following her talk, students had the opportunity to take part in an interactive training session led by Anyika, which was used to highlight the intensive training competitive athletes undertake on a daily basis. From warm-up exercises to mindset preparation to starting line etiquette and posture, Anyika taught the students how to be event-ready.

Anyika shares her inspiring story with Headteacher Mr Williams and CORE Education Trust CEO Adrian Packer CBE.

Jewellery Quarter Academy are honoured to have welcomed an Olympian into their school and are incredibly proud of their proactive and engaged students.
